Hi, I’m River Holmes.

Seeking counseling isn't a sign that you've failed. Usually, it means something in your life matters enough that you don't want to keep struggling with it alone.

You may come to therapy with your partner because your relationship is hurting. You may come on your own because you're struggling with anxiety, trauma, addiction, a difficult relationship, or a major change in your life. Either way, we'll start with what's happening now and work together toward meaningful change.

I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person and every relationship is different, so I draw from evidence-based approaches and tailor our work to your needs, strengths, and goals.

My couples work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and The Gottman Method, with particular experience helping couples facing betrayal, addiction, conflict, disconnection, and difficult decisions about their future. As a Licensed Addiction Counselor, I also understand how deeply addiction can affect trust, intimacy, communication, and the people who love someone struggling with it.

In individual therapy, I work with trauma and PTSD, addiction and recovery, and relationship struggles. We won't just talk about what isn't working. We'll understand the patterns keeping you stuck and work on changing them.

Just as important as the techniques I use is the atmosphere I create. I want therapy to feel warm, comfortable, collaborative, and free from unnecessary formality. When you walk into my office, you're my guest. You can ask questions, challenge my perspective, laugh when the moment calls for it, and simply be yourself.

My style is warm, direct, and focused on meaningful change. Insight matters, but understanding a problem is only the beginning—therapy should also help you move forward. My master’s degrees in addiction counseling and forensic mental health and human services shape the way I work. I understand that emotional pain, relationship struggles, trauma, and coping behaviors are often deeply connected, and that lasting change comes from looking at the whole picture.

Whether I'm working with one person or two, I want therapy to help your life and your relationships actually feel different.
